Minna Isomursu

Professor Minna Isomursu is a distinguished academic and researcher focusing on the intersection of technology and health. She currently serves as a professor at the University of Oulu, where she is part of the 6GESS research entity and vice head of M3S, research unit focusing in software engineering. Her journey began with an unexpected turn when a car accident delayed her plans to study architecture. This led her to explore other fields, ultimately finding her passion in information and communication technology (ICT).

Professor Isomursu’s extensive career in ICT has seen her contribute significantly to the field of digital health. She has led multimillion-euro projects, demonstrating her leadership and expertise. Her research focuses on leveraging technology for promoting health and well-being, especially on future software based solutions. Her current projects examine, for example, digital care pathways for people with epilepsy, and advancing digital skills of health professionals.

Before returning to Oulu, Professor Isomursu held positions at other prestigious institutions, including the IT University of Copenhagen, where she was appointed as a professor in interaction design and co-design. Her work there focused on improving healthcare services using data. Her current role at the University of Oulu allows her to continue her mission of promoting health through technology, and contribute in advancing diversity and inclusion in the male-dominated field of IT.
