Dimitris Plexousakis, Director of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) and Vice President of FORTH is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete and Head of the Information Systems Laboratory of FORTH-ICS. He received his BSc degree in Computer Science from the University of Crete in 1988 and MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 1990 and 1996 respectively. His research interests span the following areas: Knowledge representation and Knowledge base design; Formal knowledge representation models and query languages for the Semantic Web; Formal reasoning systems and applications of artificial intelligence, Neuro-symbolic Artificial Intelligence. He has published over 340 articles in international conferences and journals. He possesses extensive experience in the scientific coordination of research projects at the national and European levels. He is chairing the National Scientific Council on Computer and Information Sciences. He serves the role of the Scientific Coordinator of the European Digital Innovation Hub “smartHEALTH”, national representative in the AI Board, Committee on Medical Device Regulation and the ESFRI Strategic Group on Digital. He is a senior member of the ACM, and a member of AAAI and the Hellenic Society for AI.
