New Services for European Citizens: A Multi Project Overview – Wallet & Digital Health Services – Part 1

This session explores the emerging European landscape of digital health services for citizens, as shaped by a new generation of EU-funded and nationally funded projects. Moving beyond the traditional, static concept of the Electronic Health Record, the discussion highlights the transition toward a dynamic, evolving ecosystem of citizen-centred digital services, including wallets, interoperable applications, AI-enabled services, and cross-border use cases.

Drawing on concrete experience from ongoing European and national initiatives, the session examines how different projects contribute complementary building blocks—such as digital wallets, data exchange formats, AI-driven services, and citizen-facing applications—that together form a coherent service landscape for European citizens. Particular attention is given to interoperability, trust, governance, and the role of citizens as active participants in the digital health ecosystem.

Through real implementation perspectives, the session demonstrates how these initiatives collectively enable new forms of access, continuity of care, and service innovation, laying the foundations for the next phase of the European Health Data Space.
