Alkinoos Athanasiou is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the 2nd University Department of Neurosurgery of AUTH at “Ippokratio” General Hospital of Thessaloniki and a Researcher at the Medical Physics & Digital Innovation Laboratory, School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, AUTH. He had been elected Vice-President of the administrative board of the Hellenic Society for Biomedical Technology. He has both surgical/clinical expertise and scientific skills in biomedical engineering, especially neural rehabilitation of neurological populations such as stroke and spinal cord injury patients using wearable technologies, man-machine interfaces, robotics, 3d printing and XR technologies. He has been awarded 5 research grants, and he is among the most-awarded young neurosurgeons of his generation in Europe with >20 awards, fellowships or grants in total from European and national neurosurgical and spine societies and his institution. He has extensive research experience as the research projects he is involved in writing/preparation/conduction include funding of over 1.800.000 euros.
