Support Centre for the EEHRxF and for the Interoperability and Security of Electronic Health Records

The project “Support Centre for the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) and for the Interoperability and Security of Electronic Health Records” has been launched by the European Commission’s Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

The initiative aims to establish and operate a Support Centre that assists stakeholders in adopting the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF), while addressing key challenges related to interoperability and security in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, in support of the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

Through evidence-based research, structured stakeholder engagement, and technical innovation, the project consolidates EEHRxF requirements and specifications, refines the Harmonised Components, defines validation rules, and delivers a digital toolkit to support testing, compliance, and real-world implementation.

The project is structured around three complementary work streams:

  • Support Centre – providing guidance, clarification, and training materials to stakeholders and users across the health ecosystem;
  • Community of Practice for the Exchange Format (COPEF) – a multidisciplinary community bringing together experts from different domains to support adoption, including a pilot group of selected stakeholders;
  • Toolkit Development – developing tools to help system providers prepare and validate their solutions for interoperable data exchange within and across Member States.
