Dimitrios-Dionysios Koutsouris

Dr. Dimitrios-Dionysios Koutsouris is a graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Patras and holds a DEA diploma in Biomechanics from René Descartes University, a PhD in Intelligent Applied Biology and Medicine from Sorbonne Paris Nord University, and a Postdoctoral qualification in Biomedical Engineering & Applied Biophysics from René Descartes University. Dr. Koutsouris served as a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) for over 35 years, teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, having supervised more than 300 doctoral theses and diploma projects. Among other roles, he has served as the president of the ECE School, the Hellenic Society for Biotechnology (ELEBIT), and HL7 Hellas. Since early 2022, he was elected Deputy Director of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS). Additionally, from early 2022, he was named Emeritus Professor of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at NTUA.

His scientific and research interests span numerous fields of Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on remote monitoring, recording, and processing of medical information, as well as the design, organization, and coordination of healthcare services. Furthermore, he has been involved in the development of integrated systems for the secure management of non-medical information (e.g., financial data, telecommunications applications). He has authored over 400 scientific publications in international journals, conferences, and books, with more than 2,000 citations, and has received distinctions for his scientific contributions. He has served as a reviewer and member of editorial/coordinating teams for more than 70 scientific journals and conferences. He has extensive experience in coordinating, managing, and implementing over 180 research projects in collaboration with international organizations, focusing on the development of products, systems, and infrastructures for medical applications (e.g., measurement, diagnostic, therapeutic), the organization of health systems, and informational support for organizations.
