Efstathios P. Efstathopoulos

Professor of Medical Physics and Nanomedicine at the Medical School, and Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece

Efstathios P. Efstathopoulos is Chairman of the Department of Applied Medical Physics, Medical School, NKUA, based at Attikon General University Hospital in Athens, and Chairman of the MSc Program in Nanomedicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

His research focuses on x-ray dosimetry of patients and staff, imaging with x-rays, detection of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque, nanomedicine and AI in health. He is author or co-author in more than 170 scientific papers with more than 5.400 citations. He has presented more than 200 papers and more than 100 invited lectures in scientific conferences.

He was President of the Hellenic Federation of University Professors (2013-2014, and 2017-2019), and is a founding member and President of the Hellenic Society of Nanotechnology in Health Sciences (2016-today). He is member of the scientific societies CIRSE, ESR, HSMP, HSIR, HSP, and was President of the Alumni Association of Ionidios School of Piraeus (2020-2025), in which has been a member of the Board since 2015.

Efstathios Efstathopoulos is President of the Hellenic Chess Federation (2021-today), and before that has been Vice-President of the Board (2008-2021). He was also Vice President of Administrative Affairs, Academic Affairs and Student Care, Hellenic Open University (HOU) (2019-2022), and Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs and Student Welfare, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) (2023-2024). Since 2024 until today, he is Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
