Haralampos Karanikas

Haralampos Karanikas is an Assistant Professor of Medical Informatics and e-Health Systems at the University of Thessaly. He is a member of the National Committee for the Implementation of Protocols and Monitoring of Pharmaceutical Expenditure. He is an eHealth consultant to the Athens Medical Society, a member of the team developing eProtocols for the Greek National Electronic Prescription System, and Secretary General of the Greek Society of eHealth Services and Education (EEMEPY). He is also on the Board of HL7 Hellas and is actively involved in eHealth and Health Information Management research. He was Special IT Advisor to the Ministry of Health for two and a half years, leading the implementation of ESY.net (National Health BI System). He was also a member of the Greek DRGs Implementation Team and the Ministry’s Central Committee for the Monitoring of NHS IT Systems. Haralampos Karanikas was a Board member of the Greek Health Procurement Committee (E.P.Y.), an independent agency reporting directly to the Minister of Health. E.P.Y. is responsible for planning the health procurement system. He has participated in many EU research and initiatives projects (PARMENIDES, X-eHealth, UNICOM, XpanDH, i2x, XT-HER, etc.). He has been a member of EU initiatives PARENT and EUnetHTA. He is a senior eHealth advisor to international organisations such as the WHO, Expertise France and IHE Catalyst. Haralampos Karanikas has a PhD in Temporal Text Mining from the University of Manchester.
