Dr. Thanos E. Askitis, a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Athens with Honors, specialized in Neurology and Psychiatry at the Aeginiteio University Hospital with a doctoral thesis in social psychiatry at the Medical School of the University of Athens.
He specialized in postgraduate studies in the United States of America, at New York University, in the field of social psychiatry, human behavior and interpersonal relationships.
He trained as a therapist of interpersonal relationships and human sexuality. During his four-year postgraduate course in the USA, he attended special educational programs for the family and the school community, sexual education and mental health of children and adolescents.
He is member of the European Society of Sexology (ESSM) and the International Society of Sexology (ISSM), where he has published numerous papers in international conferences and journals linking mental health and psychopathology with companionship, marriage and sexuality.
Thanos Askitis is the Second Vice President – Non-executive member, Head of Human Resources – Personnel Management on the Board of Directors of the Athens Group Medical Center. Since 2024 he has been Deputy Governor for Health of Attica Region. He was born in Chios, and he is married and father of two sons.
