Christos N. Schizas

Christos N. Schizas was President of National eHealth Authority of the Republic of Cyprus until October 2024. He is Life Senior Member IEEE, Fellow BCS, and Fellow IEE. He has 44 years of experience in information systems development with dedication on eHealth, computational and artificial intelligence, medical informatics, biosignal analysis, and brain activity modelling with emphasis on attention. For the last 15 years he has been involved with interdisciplinary research for the practical implementation of a national eHealth care ecosystem with pioneering published research and preposition of implementation guides which are reflected in the eHealth law of Cyprus and the European Health Dataspace Regulation (EHDS). Served as advisor to the President of Cyprus, proposed the eHealth Law and the eHealth strategy. He is currently the National representative in the European eHealth Network, the national expert in the discussions of the EHDS Regulation at the Council of the European Union, and the representative of Cyprus to the GDHP – Global Digital Health Partnership. He has published more than 150 research papers in scientific journals and conferences and lately delivers invited keynotes on healthcare ecosystem implementation. Formerly a Professor of Computational Intelligence at the University of Cyprus, where served as Vice-Rector 2002-06, he is a founding member of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics – CING, the CYENS – Centre of Excellence, and the Centre of Excellence CY-BIOBANK. He is currently coordinating 14 EU funded research projects including the Joint Action Xt-HER – Extended EHR@EU Data Space for Primary Use of the EHDS Regulation, where all EU member states and Sweden are participating. This Joint Action aspires to propose the implementation guidelines of the EHDS regulation for primary use of health data.
