Thanasis Akalestos is a strategic healthcare leader with more than 20 years of experience leading transformative initiatives across life sciences, medical affairs, and healthcare development. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Hellenic Association of Medical and Biotechnological Products Enterprises (SEIV), where he represents the medtech and in vitro diagnostics sector in high-level dialogue with government authorities, regulators, and European stakeholders, shaping policy frameworks for innovation, reimbursement, procurement, and digital health. His career is defined by a strong ability to integrate medical science, market access, health policy, patient engagement, and strategic consultancy into coherent, impact-driven strategies.

Prior to SEIV, he held senior roles at Roche Diagnostics Hellas, where he founded and led the Medical Scientific Affairs & Healthcare Development function, delivering national healthcare campaigns, reimbursement pathways, digital health solutions, and large-scale screening and public health initiatives across oncology, cardiology, gynecology, and infectious diseases. Thanasis has a proven track record in building trusted partnerships with governmental bodies, scientific societies, and patient advocacy groups, while leading cross-functional teams and aligning scientific evidence with business and policy objectives.

He holds a BSc in Biology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MA in Strategic Communication and Public Relations from Deree – The American College of Greece.
